Phobiapedia

Kapelaphobia, not to be confused with Kapellaphobia is the fear of hats. This ranges from small and stylish hats to big and protective hats. The main reason for getting this phobia is to be involved or witnessed a traumatic incident involving hats, if untreated for long enough, can turn into the phobia of accessories or even clothing in general. Another example to get this phobia it to feel unconfident and getting bullied about wearing it or not simply not enjoying it.

The main symptoms of kapelaphobia are anxiety, sweating and feeling queasy. If the phobia is extreme, symptoms can also be stress, gagging, vomiting and insomnia.

The best treatment is to go to therapy, usually for phobias, exposure therapy works best although if unconfident can talk it out without looking at a hat. You can be prescribed antidepressants although going to a therapist is better. If all that doesn’t work, try to find your reason why you are scared of hats and find a way round it
